MA thesis on the economic ties between Carinthia and Trieste, 1740-1848

Sophie Marie Kornsee addresses in her MA thesis the economic and private ties between Carinthian entrepreneurial families and Trieste and vice versa. Among other things, it deals with the question of how intensive the business relationships were and what significance the private sphere, i.e. the marriage ties between Carinthians and Triestines, had in this context. It also raises the question of the extent to which these entrepreneurs think and act in a supra-regional and anational manner.

MA thesis on the k. k. Staatsgymnasium in Gorizia

In her MA thesis Gabriele Brunner examines the k. k. Staatsgymnasium in Gorizia (1850–1914) as a place of linguistic and cultural diversity within the context of the Habsburg Monarchy. Using school year reports and ego documents from former students and teachers, the study analyzes how the school reflects practices of „Doing In-Between“—everyday life beyond rigid national categories. It challenges the dominant narrative of the school as a German-speaking institution. The aim is to explore the school’s role in fostering „Doing In-Between“ and to highlight its influence on the polyphonic city of Gorizia.
